Margaret M. Hill

CAN Strategic Advisor

Margaret M. Hill

Margaret retired from the Public Service of Canada in February 2025 after 24 years of service.  Advancing accessibility and inclusion has been a critical part of her career and she looks forward to continuing to drive meaningful change for Canadians in this area through her involvement with the Accessibility Institute and CAN.

From 2023 to 2025, Margaret served as Special Advisor on Accessibility to the Deputy Minister Champion for Federal Employees with Disabilities and as Co-Chair of the Interdepartmental Accessibility Community of Practice.  In these roles, she made innovative, impactful contributions to enhancing the capacity of the public service to recruit, retain and develop employees with disabilities by connecting people and ideas across sectors.

Prior to this, Margaret was the inaugural Executive Director of the Accessibility Office at Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) and, from 2020 to 2023, led preparation and implementation of the department’s first accessibility plan under the Accessible Canada Act.  In addition, as Senior Director of Strategic Policy and Legislative Reform at ESDC’s Labour Program from 2014 to 2020, she played a leadership role on modernizing workplace protections under the Canada Labour Code.

Margaret has a Ph.D. in Policy Analysis and Public Administration from Carleton University.
