Our project set out to understand what youth with disabilities need to describe and demonstrate their skills during the transition from school to employment. Engaging three populations – youth, employers, and career practitioners – we learned where that process breaks down and identified possible solutions to strengthen this transition. To implement our findings, we developed a set of concrete supports: inclusive, accessible skills-articulation tools for youth, and two companion resource guides for employers and career practitioners. In the session we will share what we heard from youth, employers and career practitioners, discuss the solutions to improve the transition from school to work, and walk through a preview of our soon-to-be released tools and resource guides. Attendees will gain a shared and grounded understanding of inclusive skills articulation and assessment, and some practical ideas on how to adapt or apply these resources in their own post-secondary education and employment work.
